What I love about being a runner

I love being able to tell the lady at the bookstore, who asks if I run everyday, "yes pretty much so".  Then when she says "I tried and I just couldn't...I wish I could".  I told her yes you can!  I asked what was going wrong and she told me she couldn't run a 1/4 mile.  I told her to walk and when she felt ready, to run for 30 seconds and just to slowly increase the amount of running and decrease the amount of walking.  That's what I did.  Took me from March 2006  until June 2006 to be able to run 5 miles.  Nine months later I started a marathon, finished it and qualified for Boston.  I love encouraging people at work and sharing tips.  I love giving the APD officer whose butt I kicked at AT&T this year a hard time because I know next year he will try harder.  I practically have a running advice clinic going at work and it works...quite a few people who might not have done so, have taken up a healthier diet and some form of exercise.  They come to me with questions all the time.  Am I an expert - heck no, but I've been there and I can tell them how great it is after you stick with it a few years and it just seems so much easier.

So to Geezer, who is having a hard time with injuries and his attitude I say "yes you can".  Are you going to run a PR - probably not.  Are you gonna run sub 3?  NO!  Does it matter - NO!  Go to CALI and have a fun time, jog - walk - do what ever it takes to cross the finish.  Then regroup and put together a plan for Boston.
